The Private Hill recently invited us for a mini “vacay” in one of their four luxury geodesic glamping domes. This picture-perfect sustainable resort was due to open the following week, so our feedback as invited guests was important. Set on Thrussendale Farm, on the cusp of the North Yorkshire Wolds, these superb five-star hotel standard domes are situated atop a hill commanding views across the Vale of York.
It was our first time glamping, so we weren’t sure what to expect. On arrival after a very pleasant journey down to North Yorkshire from Whitley Bay in the North East of England, we were greeted by one half of the lovely owners Roddy Hamilton. The attractive offer of welcome drinks and to meet our fellow guests in “Jane’s Dome” – the communal dining dome set in the middle of the luxurious glamping domes, named after Roddy’s other half – distracted us from the torrential rainfall happening around us. Roddy’s tales of his Private Hill journey and his former life enthralled us so much, that we realised an hour or so had passed by and pangs of hunger set us on our way.
Off we went to discover our beautiful accommodation. On entering the dome you are surprised at the sheer volume of facilities they’ve managed to fit into such a compact space. The welcoming warmth of the log burning stove, the superking size well-dressed bed, so situated to provide incredible views across the rolling countryside, the mini kitchen and the ensuite pod bathroom with a fabulous power shower, plus the sofa bed perfect for two children.
Everything you could possibly need for a mini vacation is catered for. Each dome can comfortably accommodate a family of four, this was a five star hotel room in an eco friendly luxury dome.
Experience futuristic and quirky glamping in these stylish domes – our hosts Roddy and Jane were always on hand to help from Roddy so kindly driving us to the nearby local village for dinner, at the renowned Talbot, (which we highly recommend) then, pick us up after dinner to Jane being there at the crack of dawn to cook a fabulous breakfast, if you’ve ever wondered what luxury glamping is all about you must go to The Private Hill
Disclosure: We were invited to stay for one night complimentary stay to give the owners feedback from a guest perspective. No social media, blog posts, reviews etc were asked for.
